SUB-PROJECTS / Setting Transient State Measurement Infrastructure, Records, and Calibration of Available Measurement Transformers
Within this project package, a measurement infrastructure will be composed which will be able to record Transient Events on the levels of 420 kV EHV, 170 kV HV and 36 kV MV, and Transient Events will be recorded on approximately 10 different points. Transient Events are events such as switching capacitor banks and shunt reactors used in 420 kV transmission system, switching current transformers in the MV side existing shunt capacitor banks in 170 kV transmission system, switching on and off the transformers supplied by EHV and HV systems, sudden loadings and head sheddings in the circuit, busbar transfers, opening and closing the coupling breakers, faults such as 3-phase, phase-to-phase, and phase-to-earth, lightning fall on different parts of the system and around it. The frequency bandwidth of the current and voltage changes occurring in these periods can reach up to 1 MHz. |
| The bandwidth of the standard current and voltage measurement transformers used in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Systems can reach at most to 2-3 kHz. The measurement infrastructure with a wider bandwidth required by Transient Events will be set up with the use of new Optical Current and Voltage Transformers and RC Type Voltage Transformers. The bandwidth of this new measurement infrastructure has been planned to be 20 kHz. |

It is inferred from the literature that standard voltage measurement transformers available in the system cause errors especially in reading voltage and current harmonics, which are important components of Power Quality. Moreover, saturation is a well-known problem for current transformers whereas ferroresonance is another known problem for voltage transformers. Due to the reasons listed above; for the purpose of correct measurement, a mobile measurement infrastructure based on Optical Current and Voltage Transformers and RC Voltage Transformers will be composed, which will be able to make measurements in the systems of 420 kV, 170 kV, and 36 kV. In addition, this infrastructure will also be used for the purpose of calibrating the present standard current and voltage transformers against harmonics so that TEİAŞ can properly implement the judgments of the “Regulation on Supply Reliability and Quality”. Transient State Measurements and Calibration Works will be carried out by the whole project group. The data collected with the use of transient measurement infrastructure will be evaluated and reported mostly by the universities, TUBITAK-BILTEN, and TEİAŞ Researchers. |
