SUB-PROJECTS / The Project of Monitoring Power Quality in the Turkish Electricity Transmission System

Within this sub-project, National Power Quality Monitors will be connected to the points selected to be the most critical ones in the Turkish Transmission System, and changes in Power Quality Parameters, and Active and Reactive Power Flows will be monitored from a center as "off-line". Since there are about 4000 points to be monitored in the transmission system; measurement and monitoring will be carried out in limited numbers within this project (with 150 monitors and about 400 feeders) in accordance with the IEC 61000-4-30 Std. However, these points will be selected in a way that will thoroughly represent Turkey in general.

For this purpose; planning, software, and hardware development activities will be carried out within this project. After the project is completed, the infrastructure explained above will be extended and prevailed by TEİAŞ in a way including the whole Turkish Electricity Transmission System.

By considering the possible changes in the future needs, it is planned that the whole hardware and software be developed in a way which enables them to be flexible and taken under control of the project group and so TEİAŞ. Accordingly, a National Power Quality Monitor and Software will be developed and set on 150 points within the scope of the project. National Power Quality Center will be built within TEİAŞ Gölbaşı Facilities and a National Power Quality Software will be developed to run at this center. These processes will be implemented according to the principles defined in IEEE 1159 and IEEE 1159.3. The infrastructure, which will provide the "off-line" communication between NPQ Monitors and NPQ Center, will be set by taking TEİAŞ' resources into account.
